In addition to attacking the local government headquarters on Tuesday night, the attackers also set fire to a number of cars parked at the council buildings.
The local government attack in the state that resulted in the deaths of two local vigilante members has been connected by the Imo State Police Command to Simon Ekpa, a Biafra activist based in Finland.
Two local vigilante members who were manning the Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area headquarters in Imo State were slain by the gunmen, according to an earlier report from Daily pulse report
In addition to attacking the local government headquarters on Tuesday night, the attackers also set fire to a number of cars parked at the council buildings.
Witnesses claim that at approximately 8:30 p.m., the gunmen entered the secretariat, opened fire randomly, and killed the two vigilante members who were on duty. They then started a fire in a section of the council building.
Henry Okoye, a spokesman for the state police command, said Daily pulse reporter on Wednesday that Simon Ekpa had threatened to assault government infrastructure and facilities and had issued a one-month sit-at-home order.
“Hoodlums suspected of being members of the banned IPOB/ESN attacked the headquarters of Isiala-Mbano Local Government, firing intermittently,” he stated. We deployed operatives with some local vigilantes since we were aware of the threat, and they battled bravely and with a lot of effort.
“They got into a gunfight with the thugs; during the fight, two vigilantes suffered critical injuries. They were subsequently transported to the hospital and are now receiving medical attention. I am therefore unable to verify at this time whether they are still alive or not. However, as of yesterday, they were reacting to the medication.
“Normality has been reinstated in the area, although the thugs destroyed Parker vehicles with homemade petrol bombs that they tossed into them.
“A few weeks back, Simon Ekpa, the self-described leader of IPOB, issued a one-month sit-at-home threat, threatening to attack government infrastructure and facilities this time. That’s what they’re doing, enforcing this; they’re searching for openings to attack.
“The command has sent out tactical teams to capture the criminals, but we still need the Imo State people’s help and cooperation because without them, we could find this tough. The individuals responsible for this illegal crime are not in the air; instead, they are well-known and remain within the community.
