The recent terrorist incident in Yobe State has been vehemently denounced by the Saudi Arabian Royal Embassy in Abuja.
According to Dungus Abdulkarim, the public relations officer for Yobe State Police, gunmen who were thought to be Boko Haram insurgents stormed Mafa village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, robbing and setting homes and businesses on fire.
According to a police spokesperson, the attackers left behind flyers with Arabic writing and killed an indiscriminate number of individuals.
The attackers’ motivations were explained in a letter discovered at the scene, which claimed the town had military ties.
Numerous Mafa village inhabitants in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, Yobe State, were reportedly massacred by Boko Haram militants, according to reports from SaharaReporters.
On Tuesday morning, SaharaReporters was informed by community sources that numerous bodies had been found and placed in hospitals, and the hunt for the other victims was still on.
But subsequently, the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) took credit for the savage assault that allegedly claimed the lives of thirty-four civilians.
“Revenge for alleged grievances” was the stated motivation of ISWAP for the killing.
ISWAP claimed credit for the attack in a letter written in Arabic that was made public by the assailants. The letter said that the village was attacked because its members were killed as a result of supposedly giving information to the military.
In a statement on X, the Saudi Arabian embassy responded to the attack by denouncing it and calling it “treacherous.”
The embassy sent its deepest sympathies to the relatives of the victims as well as the government and people of Nigeria, expressing the Kingdom’s firm rejection to terrorism and acts of violence.
The message said as follows: “The Embassy conveys the denunciation and condemnation of the cowardly terrorist act that occurred in Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria, and resulting in several fatalities and injuries.
The Embassy restates the Kingdom’s unequivocal opposition to extremism, terrorism, and acts of violence. The Nigerian government and people, as well as the families of the departed, are also extended the Kingdom’s deepest sympathies and condolences.
