Alleged Serial Killer Who Murdered Christianah, an Ogun University student, is Arrested by Nigerian Police

The suspect, a 200-Level Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, is said to have abducted her along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos in August. The Nigeria Police Force confirmed on Thursday that 23-year-old suspect Ayomide Adeleye has been arrested for the horrific murder of Idowu Christianah. The deceased was reportedly a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, during her life.

She was allegedly kidnapped in August by the suspect, a 200-Level Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos.

SaharaReporters had previously detailed how internet users had begun to trend the hashtag #JusticeForChristianah on X in an effort to call for the suspect’s prompt prosecution.

Many tweeps also speculated that Ayomide might have been responsible for his biological sister’s death in 2020 and his ex-girlfriend’s death in 2018 due to allegedly identical circumstances.

In response, Lagos State Police Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin verified the suspect’s detention in a brief statement shared on X along with a photo of him in handcuffs.

The Nigerian Army turned up the suspect to the police on Thursday afternoon, according to the police, who also stated that an investigation was still underway.

“9 Brigade @HQNigerianArmy has turned over 23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye to @LagosPoliceNG,” the police stated. At approximately 1400 hours today, September 5, 2024, the handover occurred. An investigation is still underway.
