Angel Gomes, an England midfielder, stated that he joined Lille four years ago with the goal of improving both as a player and a person after leaving Manchester United.
When the 24-year-old was just six years old, he joined Man United.
As Gomes advanced through the club’s junior ranks, many predicted he would have a bright career at Old Trafford.
In 2020, he did, however, end up signing with Lille in the French Ligue 1.
Lee Carsley, the acting manager of England, chose Gomes for the team’s Nations League matches against Finland and the Republic of Ireland.
Prior to England’s match against Ireland on Saturday, Gomes made the following remarks to the media:
“I left [Manchester United] more with the intention of bettering myself—both as a player and, obviously, as a person—after going through what I had.
“I had faith that I would finally be able to forge a route for myself to be in my current role.
“Leaving the club where I had been going since six o’clock and going into the unknown was definitely tough for me personally.
Since then, there have been many challenges and trying times along with an upward trajectory. But it’s all worthwhile now that I’m in this situation.
