According to Gabriel Idahosa, President and Chairman of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Dangote Refinery cannot compete with the prices at which Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) is offered at petrol stations.
Idahosa made this revelation on Thursday in an interview that DAILY POST saw on Channels Television.
His remarks coincide with the recent hike in gas pump prices to N897 and N855 per litre by Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail locations, which was announced concurrently with Dangote Refinery’s PMS deployment.
Idahosa responded to the development by clarifying that Dangote Refinery is not in charge of setting petrol pricing at petrol stations.
He asserts that the NNPCL and other fuel marketers set the price of the commodity.
“Dangote does not sell petroleum. There isn’t a petrol station there. The price at which petrol is purchased at the petrol station does not do business with any refinery.
Dangote is a factory with a pricing that is ex-factory.
“Anyone who want to purchase, whether NNPCL or not, may do so at the Dangote Refinery.
“Dangote Refinery has no right to disclose any pricing to third parties. Only interested buyers, whether NNPCL or not, may communicate with it.
He declared, “We have to stop placing Dangote in situations where he shouldn’t be.
Remember that on Tuesday, the Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote, declared that the Nigerian Federal Executive Council will set the product’s pricing when the fuel rollout got underway.
