Rivers NSCDC appoints a new commander

In Rivers, Joachim Okafor has taken up his position as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ (NSCDC) new commandant.

Olufemi Ayodele, the command’s spokesperson, announced this in a statement on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

Mr. Igwebueze, who was redeployed, was followed by the new commandant, according to Ayodele.

He said that Okafor would be in charge of the state’s efforts against pipeline vandalism and illicit bunkering.

Ayodele stated that Okafor had been the NSCDC commandant in Niger before to taking on his new position.

During the handover ceremony held at the command headquarters in Port Harcourt, Mr. Ayinla Olowo, the Commander of NSCDC Zone L, praised Okafor for his experience, dedication, and resourcefulness.

He gave his word that he could improve security for the country’s gas and oil infrastructure.

Speaking to NSCDC agents, Okafor promised to do his part to bring back the credibility of the Rivers security unit.

He emphasised how vital it is to safeguard vital oil and gas infrastructure, since it is the backbone of the country’s economy.

“To prevent crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, we will work with the government, sister security agencies, community and religious leaders, civil society organisations, youths, and the media to achieve this goal.

“This strong partnership would aid in reducing environmental deterioration and related offences in Rivers State,” stated Okafor.
