Former APC Vice-Chairman Lukman: “Those of Us Who Supported Buhari, Tinubu Never Imagined They Would Be Colossal Failures.”

Lukman emphasised how depressing it was that a party that had come with such high hopes of improving Nigeria had instead brought about the nation’s destruction.

Former National Vice Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has declared that 2027 is a great year to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, Lukman claimed that the country had been destroyed by the APC, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, the democratic system provides the chance for voters to remove a government that fails its constituents. He went on to say that by all measures, President Tinubu and the APC had failed the people of Nigeria.

Lukman emphasised how depressing it was that a party that had come with such high hopes of improving Nigeria had instead brought about the nation’s destruction.

He stated that it was critical to make an appeal to the main opposition figures to get up, attempt to show compassion, and recognise the seriousness of the dreadful circumstances that the people are in.

However, he bemoaned the fact that the current generation of prominent opposition politicians is working against each other because they are all fixated on winning the presidency rather than putting their particular interests under the larger national interest of freeing the country from the control of the country’s political hawks.

Unknown to prominent opposition political figures, he claims that President Tinubu’s strength or confidence stems from their unwillingness to be transparent and sincerely start talks to create a united front before 2027.

Important opposition political figures, he claimed, including Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Mr. Peter Obi, and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had fulfilled their political obligations and were actively pursuing their goals of becoming president even though they were running for office in 2023.

Although opposition leaders concurred that President Tinubu’s performance in the year since taking office has been appalling, Lukman said that their agreement did not force them to cooperate in creating a platform that could mobilise and unify the opposition.

He said it was concerning that significant opposition figures maintain a “business as usual” view of politics, in which managing one’s aspirations to become president is the most crucial factor in politics, despite the risks facing the country.

According to Lukman, it is critical to wake up, attempt to be empathetic, and recognise the seriousness of the dreadful condition that our country’s residents are in.

The key question is whether we wish to keep mismanaging our reality and sacrificing every possibility that a democratic system, in theory, should provide, because of personal desires.

The democratic system provides the chance for voters to remove any government that fails its constituents. Without a question, the APC and President Tinubu have failed the people of Nigeria by all measures. That a party that arrived with all the promises of improving Nigeria has ended up wrecking the nation is quite depressing.

All of the three major issues that the APC and former President Muhammadu Buhari pledged to address in 2015—the economy, insecurity, and corruption—are easily solved now.

The harsh reality is that neither President Tinubu nor Former President Buhari have shown themselves to be capable of providing the kind of leadership required to lead the nation out of its current predicament.

“Undoubtedly, none of us who actively backed these leaders thought they would turn out to be such monumental failures.”
