The head of the ICPC urges a unified effort against corruption

The Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) chairman, Musa Aliyu, has emphasised the importance of forging a united front against corruption in the nation.

In a statement released on Sunday, the ICPC’s spokeswoman, Demola Bakare, cited Mr. Aliyu as claiming that the organisation has taken decisive action to stop the threat.

He added that for a crucial roundtable on Monday in Abuja, the solicitors general (AGs), commissioners for justice in each of the 36 states, and other relevant parties had been invited by the commission.

He declared that the meeting’s topic would be Nigeria’s corruption problems.

According to him, the ICPC, with assistance from the MacArthur Foundation, is organising the AGs summit, which has as its topic, “Building a Unified Front Against Corruption in Nigeria.”

The strategic plan, according to Mr. Aliyu, was designed to strengthen anti-corruption initiatives at all governmental levels.

Additionally, it will improve national cooperation between the ICPC and AGs in promoting the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS).

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, will be the event’s special guest of honour. Kanu Agabi, a former AGF, will give the keynote speech.

He said, “There will also be a lively panel discussion moderated by Moyosore Onigbanjo, the former AG of Lagos State.”

He lists Prof. Mohammed Tabiu of Bayero University in Kano and Ekpo Nta, the former chairman of the ICPC, as further noteworthy contributors.

Hauwa Abubakar, the Attorney-General of Borno state, and Prof. Abdulkarim Kana of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, are also anticipated.

“The goal of this engagement is to pinpoint and resolve the structural issues in the legal system that impede the ICPC’s operations by fuelling corruption.

In addition, he stated, “the summit will identify specific areas for collaboration between the ICPC and state governments, foster stronger understanding between the ICPC and the AGs, and develop effective strategies to enhance ICPC’s capacity to prevent corruption.”
