At the Janruwa Grazing Reserve in the Kanya District of Danko Wasagu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, two alleged bandits were taken into custody.
The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), which has been proactively monitoring the area, made the arrests.
The incidence was verified by Hussaini Bena, the Chairman of the Danko Wasagu Local Government, who said that the District Head of Kanya had notified him of the arrest on Wednesday.
He claimed that during routine patrols, the vigilantes caught the suspects, and even though one of the bandits tried to flee, locals helped to ensure his capture.
Bena commended the community’s alertness and gave the go-ahead for the suspects to be turned over to the police without incident.
He added that one of the vigilantes’ firearms malfunctioned when they were trying to take down the evading suspect during the arrest.
In his statement, Bena thanked the Kebbi State Government for helping the vigilantes with their logistics and reaffirmed the volunteers’ and vigilantes’ dedication to upholding security in the region.
Additionally, he exhorted locals to alert security services to any questionable activity.
The arrests have been confirmed by the Kebbi State Police Command.
The Command’s public relations officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, gave the assurance that the suspects were detained and that more enquiries were being conducted.
