
Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), according to confirmation from the NLC.
Ajaero was freed late on Monday night, according to NTA (Nigeria Television Authority), citing NLC chief of information Benson Upah.
After being held by the security agency for several hours, he was released.
Secret police officers picked up the NLC President at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
It was reported that he was travelling to the UK to attend a gathering of the Trade Union Congress.
The NLC gave the federal government till Monday midnight to free its President; the President was finally freed at 11:10 p.m. on Monday, according to the DAILY POST.
His detention coincided with an alleged raid by the secret police on the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) headquarters in Abuja.
