Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, was substituted during Monday night’s UEFA Nations League match between Norway and Austria, which ended in a 2-1 victory.
Odegaard appeared to be in significant discomfort as he hobbled out of the game due to an ankle sprain.
Under a challenge from Christoph Baumgartner of Austria, the 25-year-old slid over on his left ankle and was unable to continue.
The midfield player winced in pain and was then assisted by two trainers off the pitch.
Although the issue’s seriousness is yet unknown, Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, appears to be somewhat concerned about it in light of this weekend’s north London derby against Tottenham.
After the game, Ola Sand, the national team doctor for Norway, offered TV2 an upbeat but ambiguous update, saying, “Martin is doing quite well now.” He sprained his ankle slightly. We’ll watch what happens during the evening and tomorrow to determine what has to be done.
