Five industries have been placed under seal due to environmental violations by the Ogun State Government, acting through its Environmental Protection Agency.

Located on the Sagamu axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway are Nixim Paper Limited and Long Xiang Aluminium, among other companies.

The other two are two unregistered businesses that are allegedly running illicitly along the Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway, as well as New Shidai Manufacturing Limited, Mowe in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

Farook Akintunde, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment and Chairman of the Ogun State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, revealed in a statement on Sunday that he oversaw the enforcement team that sealed the companies.

According to Akintunde, the businesses were forced to close after the Environmental Protection Agency received complaints about their constant release of raw sewage into the surrounding areas.

“OGEPA verified this by issuing a Stop Work Order directing them to halt production and address the irregularity.

“They disregarded the ruling, refusing to comply, and carried on causing environmental degradation by releasing their toxic, untreated effluent into the nearby villages.

Since they didn’t have effluent treatment plants, which they needed to install in order to stop their constant and harmful wastewater discharge, the state government was forced to shut them down in the overwhelming interest of the public and force them to stop their harmful environmental practices.

Speaking about their closure, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde, Special Advisor to the Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, also stated that the company would now be required to follow state wastewater regulations, which are essential to preventing water pollution and maintaining water quality standards, following multiple warnings.
