The prophets of the Cherubim and Seraphim, or C&S, Church Worldwide have been advised to stop performing ceremonies for young people who are engaging in online fraud, or “Yahoo Yahoo.”
This request was made on Monday during a pre-centennial revival in Osogbo.
Senior Apostle Samuel Onigbinde, Osun State Chairman of C&S Unification, made the call and stressed that the goal of the church is to eradicate unorthodox behaviours within its ranks.
The genuine teachings of Moses Orimolade, the church’s founder, placed more emphasis on healing via prayer, fasting, and divine intervention than on spirit conjuring. Onigbinde pointed out that counterfeit rituals carried out by so-called prophets are contrary to these teachings.
“One of the main objectives of the Unification is to combat unusual practices among our members,” he declared. Prophets who are performing such rituals with our white garments must cease, since C&S is not a haven for “Yahoo boys.”
He continued by saying that a committee had been established to make sure that each member followed Prophet Orimolade’s teachings.
The pre-centenary revival’s organiser, Pastor Olusegun Elijah, discussed the growth of churches and linked it to the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria.
He issued a warning that an increasing number of people, motivated by unemployment, were founding churches more for their own financial gain than for spiritual guidance, which was fuelling the rise in crime.
The rise in criminal activity in spite of the expansion of religious institutions is a reflection of religious leaders’ inability to put salvation first.
Furthermore, a lot of clergypeople are now siding with the political elite, which makes it challenging to hold politicians responsible, Elijah said.
He urged religious authorities to continue acting as moral compass and to distance themselves from political camaraderie.
