Under the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria – Ibadan, President Bola Tinubu’s administration has budgeted N600 million for street light installation, the provision of empowerment materials to market women and craftsmen, and the delivery of CNG buses to unnamed beneficiaries in Lagos State.
This was discovered when examining the 2024 Fiscal Appropriations Act, a copy of which could be found on the Nigerian Budget Office’s website.
On December 1st, 1964, the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) was founded in Ibadan, Oyo State, as the independent research institution that replaced the Nigerian Substation of the now-defunct West African Cocoa Research Institute (WACRI).
With the sole mission of “applying science and technology in increasing productivity, improving quality and value addition of Cashew, Cocoa, Coffee, Kola, and Tea,” and the vision of “becoming a centre of excellence of international repute in the research and development of Cashew, Cocoa, Coffee, Kola, and Tea,” the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, located in Ibadan, operates under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
However, N100 million was budgeted by Tinubu’s administration for the “Provision of grant and empowerment to artisans in Somolu Federal Constituency, Lagos State,” under the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria – Ibadan, according to SaharaReporters’ study of the 2024 Fiscal Appropriation Act.
The Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria – Ibadan allocated an additional N100 million for the purpose of “Providing empowerment materials for artisans and market women in Ojo Federal Constituency, Lagos State.” Additionally, N100 million was budgeted for the “Supply of CNG buses in Badagry Federal Constituency,” in Lagos, to be used by beneficiaries who have not yet been identified.
Additionally, the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria – Ibadan allocated N100 million for the purpose of “Supply and installation of solar street lights in ODM Olawoye/Ojuwoye communities in Mushin 1 Federal Constituency.”
Under the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria – Ibadan, N200 million was set aside for the projects “Provision and installation of solar street lights in FESTAC town of Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, Lagos State” and “Supply and installation of all-in-one solar powered street lights in Ifako/Jaiye Federal Constituency, Lagos State.”
