A man is on remand after allegedly defiling a girl, age nine.

On Wednesday, a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos placed 44-year-old Sunday Lukas under detention for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.

After Lukas entered a not guilty plea to a count of assault, the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Patrick Adekomaiya, ordered that he be placed under detention at the Awarjigoh Correctional Centre, Baagry.

He gave the order to copy the case file and send it to the DPP’s office, the Director for Public Prosecution, so they could have legal counsel.

However, Adekomaiya postponed the hearing until October 28 in order to await the outcome of Lukas’ bail application and the DPP’s legal counsel.

Ayodele Adeosun, the police prosecutor, had earlier informed the court that the defendant had committed the crime at No. 4 Aribena Street, Ijanikin, on May 28, at 12:20 p.m.

According to the prosecution, the offence violated Section 135 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law.
