In a widely shared video, a spy policeman urged the Edo Selectorates to vote against PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo in the upcoming gubernatorial election. This action was directed by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
A man dressed in a spy police costume was heard accusing the state’s incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, and the PDP candidate of crimes against the populace in a widely shared video footage that was discovered by DAILY POST.
Voters should use this election as a chance to fight back, he said, emphasising that the state’s democracy was compromised by the governor and his chosen candidate.
“The election is about the act Governor Obaseki Asue Ighodalo committed against the good people of Edo State,” he declared. “It is not about the APC, PDP, or the Labour Party.”
They have battled for democracy, betrayed it, disregarded the law, and embezzled our resources. Now is the moment to assess them.
However, the remark was denounced by the Nigeria Police in a statement released on Wednesday.
The person in question is a Supernumerary (Spy) Police Officer who was trained by the Nigeria Police for specialised security responsibilities, primarily within their place of employment, according to a statement released by Force Spokesman Olumuyiwa Adfejobi.
“They do not swear to the NPF and are not employed by the NPF.”
The police in this case object to him participating in politics and dressing in his official SPY gear.
The statement further stated that the person in question has been placed under detention pending additional enquiries.
