
Chief Economist Segun Sanni of Afenifere proposed on Wednesday that the government look into the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in the same manner that it looked into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Even still, Sanni maintained that the NNPCL was the world’s most dishonest and ineffective body.
He made this claim on Wednesday while taking questions during the Sunrise Daily show on Channels Television.
Sanni clarified that the business merely trades Nigeria’s oil and keeps the proceeds; it does not actually own any of it.
He claims that Nigeria will be able to trace where its money is going if the NNPCL is looked into for the oil it is losing.
Sanni stated, “I will propose that the NNPC should be investigated in the same manner that we investigated CBN.”
“I think if we look into the NNPC for the oil we were losing—roughly a million barrels a day for two years or so—where did that money go and what corruption was involved with the Subbane regime? On that, we may recover quite well.
