In the upcoming state governorship election, the people of Edo State have demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, act impartially and professionally.
By remaining impartial, they hoped the Commission would guarantee a free and fair election on September 21, 2024.
Concern organisation Edo Youth Collectives issued a warning, saying that INEC must maintain its impartiality and refrain from endorsing any political party.
The group’s secretary, Musa Iyoha, stated that the claims that defective BVAS machines were shipped to PDP strongholds needed to be investigated.
The state resident electoral commissioner is allegedly siding with the All Progressives Congress, or APC, according to Iyoha, who also urged the Commission to investigate these claims.
“Not only must the electoral body act in a neutral manner, it must also be perceived as neutral,” stated Iyoha.
“Everyone involved needs to be seen to be acting honourably because the stakes are very high.” He said, “The electorate is expecting free and fair elections without INEC acting as a partisan umpire.”
The money for the Edo State governorship election have been received, according to a statement released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, on Tuesday.
This was revealed by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu during a tour of the Commission’s Benin City facilities.
He claims that prior to the most recent increase in fuel prices, all of the election-related cash had been received and disbursed to the state and the eighteen local government offices.
