The difficulty resulting from the non-implementation of Presidential directions to remove universities and other tertiary institutions from IPPIS has been pledged to be addressed by the House of Representatives through the proper steps.
This was disclosed by Abubakar Fulata, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on University Education, at the committee’s meeting with the vice chancellor’s conference on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to Mr. Fulata, the committee is committed to addressing any problem that could jeopardise the efficient operation of universities around the nation.
He mentioned that universities and other higher institutions had been removed from IPPIS after President Bola Tinubu responded to their concerns.
In addition, he said, the President reorganised the higher education councils and boards and had just approved a 50% electricity tariff discount for hospitals and postsecondary educational institutions.
Mr. Fulata expressed optimism that the issue of the President’s instruction on IPPIS not being implemented will be resolved.
He mentioned that before even a cleaner could be hired, a university’s vice chancellor had to go through roughly seven MDAs through the IPPIS platform.
Despite the presidential instruction to remove universities and other tertiary institutions from IPPIS, Prof. Lilian Salami, VC, UNIBEN, stated that these institutions still rely on the platform for hiring, salary payments, and other functions.
According to NAN, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) ordered the country’s university system to be promptly taken off the IPPIS platform on July 12.
The idea had previously been approved by the federal government before the announcement.
According to reports, the new instruction was one of the decisions made at President Tinubu’s council meeting at the Presidential Villa.
