A Nigerian Air Force officer receives the Sword of Honour at a UK college.

At the Royal Air Force College Cranwell in the United Kingdom, David Sangokoya, an officer in the Nigerian Air Force, has been granted the International Sword of Honour for 2023.

The Nigerian Air Force revealed this on Friday in a statement that was posted on Facebook.

“NAF Officer Awarded 2023 International Sword of Honour At RAF College Cranwell UK” is the title of the announcement.

The text stated, “An officer in the Nigerian Air Force has been granted the 2023 International Sword of Honour at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell (RAFCC), located in the United Kingdom (UK).” From March to September of 2023, Flying Officer David Sangokoya participated in the Modularised Initial Officers’ Training (MIOT) Course 22, where he won the title of Best International Cadet.

“The RAFCC graduates up to eight courses yearly, and the International Sword of Honour goes to the most outstanding amongst the award-winning international cadets for the year.” According to the statement, the award was presented by Prince of Wales, William Arthur, on behalf of King Charles III on Thursday. “The prestigious award was presented to Flying Officer Sangokoya by His Royal Highness, William, the Prince of Wales, on behalf of King Charles III, at the Royal Graduation on 12 September 2024,” it added. Reacting to the honour, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, congratulated Sangokoya on his achievement. The statement added, “In his congratulatory message to the officer, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, commended him for this remarkable achievement. ” According to the CAS, this prestigious recognition is a testament to the officer’s focus, dedication, and hard work throughout his training.

The CAS also praised his family, who undoubtedly contributed significantly to his accomplishment with their encouragement and support. The NAF is pleased of this achievement, which Air Marshal Abubakar said “brings honour to the Service and to the country in general.”
