According to Arc Chibuikem Onyekachi, managing director of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd., the company’s primary goal is to offer low-cost accommodation to people living in Enugu and other regions of the nation.
During a breakfast meeting on Friday with realtors from Enugu and other South East regions, Chibuikem made the observation that real estate does not have to be pricey to be real estate.
When it comes to real estate, I don’t think anything has to be pricey to be considered real estate. It is possible to provide cheap housing on the outskirts rather than in the city centre.
When you travel to Dubai, you will see that the people there live well. Therefore, I don’t understand why we should all congregate in the city centre and attempt to put pressure on the limited infrastructure when there are actually more cheap options that we can open up.
“The only thing that will be different is that we will need to get to our destination from there. Thus, we are passionate about helping individuals afford housing,” he stated.
Chibuikem, the Publicity and Organising Secretary of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), commended Peter Mbah’s Enugu State government for enacting a legislation against land racketeering in response to the issue of quacks in the real estate sector.
There are quacks in every profession there is, and there are also people that follow the code of ethics in their field. In light of this, we have organised events such as this one, gathering real estate professionals and those aspiring to the profession to engage in conversation and knowledge exchange.
“This is to make sure that everyone is aware of the dos and don’ts since you can’t hold someone accountable for wrongdoing if they are not properly informed. Some of these individuals sell fictitious land because they are ignorant of the truth.
“With the recent signing of the land grabbing law, which protects investors’ investments, Enugu is moving forward thanks to the current government.”
The investor gains confidence from that. “There will be no such thing as losing your investment for any reason when they know that they have land title that is recognised by the government,” he said.
Igwe Bennett Ikenna, the traditional head of the Amankanu Community in the Nkanu East Local Government Area, praised Powell Homes and Shelters for their excellent and humane handling of real estate.
But he urged other real estate companies to follow the company’s example and make sure that research is done before entering any community for business purposes.
“I urge everyone, but notably real estate developers, to speak with the traditional leader of the neighbourhood in which they wish to purchase land. It is he who is aware of the condition of
Never blindly follow someone who claims to own land. Due to the poor state of the economy, people will do anything to get money. However, he pointed out that young people ought to be doing something worthwhile with their life instead of waiting for someone to con them.
