Human rights attorney Inibehe Effiong has called the Nigerian Presidency’s use of its official X handle to promote Monday Okpebholo disgusting.

The All Progressives Congress, or APC, has designated Okpebholo as its candidate for Edo State’s upcoming governor’s race.

According to Effiong, the APC has denigrated every organisation in the nation.

The announcement follows a post made by the Presidency on its official X feed on Saturday night, in which Vice President Kashim Shettima was quoted as advising the people of Edo to vote for Okpebholo in order to establish a functioning state.

The post stated, “Says state will benefit from positive change with increased federal allocation.”

But according to public interest attorney Effiong, it is outrageous to use an official government handle for political campaigning.

He further characterised it as a full-fledged State capture.

“This is disgusting but not shocking; the APC has denigrated every institution in this country,” Effiong stated.
