According to President Bola Tinubu, Nigerians’ distinct identity proof highlights their fundamental human right to safety, nourishment, and assistance as an accepted part of society wherever they may be.
At the National Day of Identity event, which was hosted by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Tinubu made a speech. He was accompanied by Gorge Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, GGF.
On National Day of Identity, stakeholders unite to acknowledge that every Nigerian and global citizen has the fundamental right to a distinct, verifiable proof of identity.
“Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) – Enabling Access to Services” is the topic of this year’s National Identity Day celebration.
According to the President, “proving one’s identity in the digital age is not just a convenience; it is a cornerstone of our socioeconomic progress.”
The foundation for facilitating access to fundamental services, such as healthcare, education, financial inclusion, and social welfare, is known as digital public infrastructure, or DPI.
We can guarantee that every Nigerian, regardless of background or geography, has the chance to fully engage in the development of our country by implementing a strong DPI.
The success of our digital identity initiatives is closely tied to our administration’s eight-point agenda, which includes ensuring food security, combating corruption, promoting economic growth and job creation, improving security, enhancing the business environment, and upholding the rule of law.
“We can guarantee that government programs reach the people who need them most, minimise bureaucratic bottlenecks, and streamline service delivery by utilising DPI.”
It goes without saying that the success of government initiatives such as the student loan program, the National Youth Talent Export Program, the Renewed Hope City and Estate Housing initiative, the Skill-Up Artisans Program, and others has depended heavily on a strong, effective digital identity system.
“Assuring that the appropriate services and assistance reach the right people in need requires verifiable identity.”
He continued by saying that his administration is dedicated to promoting sustainable development and raising the standard of living for all Nigerians through the Renewed Hope project.
This idea is greatly aided by digital identification. It improves accountability and transparency in government, empowers people, and makes economic transactions easier.
The President said, “We can create a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria with a dependable digital identity system.”
