The 3.7 km Idofian-Elerinjare road is in appalling condition, and the locals of Elerinjare community in Kwara State have expressed their displeasure.
The neighbourhood made a plea to the state government to assist in taking action over the terrible status of the road.
The Olushabi of Elerinjare Ibobo land, Oba Tajudeen Olanrewaju Bello (Olaitan II), made the request on behalf of the people, stating that the poor condition of the road has caused the people to endure terrifying experiences.
The Elerinjare Ibobo Descendants Union (EIDU) Publicity Secretary, Abdulhakeem Garba, claimed in a statement that no government in the organization’s history has ever built the road.
The road was first approved for building in 2003, during Governor Bukola Saraki’s first term, and again under Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed’s second term, the statement added, “without its construction seeing the light of the day.”
Oba Bello was quoted in the statement as saying, “Every year, it is a challenge for indigenous people who travel far and near to reach the agrarian community because rain usually floods the route leading there, forcing indigenous people to park their cars by the side of the road for days without being able to enter the community, while
When the Idofian-Elerinjare road is built, it would help neighbouring agrarian settlements like Oko-Okuta and Okoya, the monarch stated, adding that it will also cut down on the number of man hours spent commuting on the route.
He added that Ojoku in the state’s Oyun local government area and Offa local government area are reached by the Idofian-Elerinjare road.
Oba Bello stated that every family was assessed annually, particularly during the rainy season, to maintain the road, in addition to stating that collective efforts had so far kept it intact.
Primary and secondary schools were built thanks to community members’ combined efforts, the king added, adding that taxes were also used to fund projects like hand pump boreholes and electricity.
The traditional ruler declared that they are ardent supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and fervently pleaded with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to act quickly to improve the situation of the people.
“Even though we are ardent supporters of the state’s ruling All Progressive Party, we regret that the benefits of democracy have not yet reached the community.” Thus, we are pleading with our capable Governor to take our situation into consideration.
