Police find guns in Delta and apprehend five kidnapping suspects.

Five kidnapping suspects have been taken into custody by the Delta Police Command in the state’s Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The suspects were taken into custody on Thursday at their hiding place in Ewu town, Ughelli South, according to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, who spoke to reporters in Warri on Tuesday.

According to Edafe, the police crack squad affiliated with the Ughelli Area Command apprehended the suspected thugs as a result of a tip.

He claimed that during questioning, the accused acknowledged kidnapping and releasing a seventy-nine-year-old woman in exchange for N7.9 million in ransom.

Based on a tip, the Ughelli Area Command crack team raided a criminal hideaway in Ewu town on September 12, 2024, and took five individuals into custody.

“The suspects admitted to a number of armed robberies and kidnappings in Ughelli and the surrounding areas, including the abduction of a 70-year-old woman on September 8 and their subsequent collection of N7.9 million before her release,” stated Edafe.

The spokesperson stated that three locally manufactured cut-to-size weapons, N450,000, and a single barrel were among the goods found retrieved from the accused.

Additional items include wraps of weeds thought to be Cannabis sativa, one OPAY Point of Sale (POS) machine, and one Moniepoint Point of Sale (PoS) machine.

According to Edafe, the suspects were being held while the inquiry was still ongoing.
