A distressed 59-year-old man was saved by Nigerian police from suicide on the third mainland bridge in Lagos.

It said that at around 1200 hours today, bike patrol members from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) stopped a man from plunging into the lagoon on the Third Mainland Bridge while they were on normal patrol.

On Friday, members of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) prevented a 59-year-old man known only as Yemi from taking his own life on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The concerned guy was seen standing perilously close to the edge of the bridge, threatening to commit suicide, by RRS police conducting routine patrols on the bridge, according to a statement from the Lagos Police Command.

This was announced by RRS on Friday in a message it posted on its official Facebook page.

It said that at around 1200 hours today, bike patrol members from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) stopped a man from plunging into the lagoon on the Third Mainland Bridge while they were on normal patrol.

The statement said, “The man, one Yemi, aged 59, of Ilasa, Lagos, stated that he was overwhelmed by challenges.”

Commander RRS, CSP Shola Jejeloye has advised the suspect and ordered that he be detained in protective custody till his family members arrive.
