FG closes the ramps and Eko Bridge for eight weeks to repair

The Eko Bridge and its ramps have been closed by the federal government for eight weeks in order to resurface the necessary asphalt.

This was announced in a statement on Saturday morning in Lagos by Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works for the City of Lagos.

The closure will remain in place from Friday, September 20, to Wednesday, November 20, Kesha continued.

The announcement said as follows: “Effective Friday, September 20, by 7:00 a.m., through November 20, the Federal Ministry of Works planned vital asphalt resurfacing work on the Eko Bridge and Ramps for eight weeks.

There will be partial closures in some areas of the bridge and complete closures in others.

“The goal of this important endeavour is to make driving safer and more enjoyable for drivers.

“The work include relaying new asphalt on the bridge and ramps and grinding the existing asphalt. By doing this, deterioration will be addressed and a safer, smoother road will result.

She claims that cars will have alternate routes and detours because of the closure.

She gave directions on how to get around the region during the shutdown and advised drivers heading to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue to connect with Costain and approach the Eko Bridge via the service lane at Alaka.

“Island: Use Costain to link Apongbon and Eko Bridge.”

For the Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue route heading inward from Costain, take Apapa Road, connect Oyingbo to Adekunle, and then connect to the Third Mainland Bridge.

Surulere: Connect Eric Moore and Bode Thomas by using Costain to link breweries inward to Abebe Village.

Kesha advised locals and companies in the impacted area to arrange their travel schedules appropriately. She gave the public her word that the proper traffic control devices and signage would be installed to direct cars and pedestrians.

She apologised for any inconvenience this would create, noting that she appreciated the public’s tolerance and cooperation as the ministry strives to enhance the country’s infrastructure.
