The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor, Barrister Asue Ighodalo, has sounded the alarm over alleged vote-buying in the state’s current election.
Shortly after voting in Okaigben Idinrio’s ward 1, unit 3, in Esan South-East LGA, Ighodalo made the accusation.
He claimed that some political groups are using N15,000 and B20,000 to purchase votes.
The worst part is that they constantly attempt to purchase votes. Votes for N15,000 and N20,000 are bought. He stated, “They are making every effort to sabotage the procedure.
Ighodalo stated that advancing the state is his top priority and expressed optimism that he will win the election.
“We find the little shenanigans that are occurring uncomfortable, especially from the APC.”
Rumour has it that they’re attempting to sabotage the electoral process. Several of them have been found in possession of PVC ballots.
The military of Nigeria has inspired pride in me. They’ve showed a great deal of responsibility and leadership. They have proved that they can safeguard the people and I am quite proud.
“We’re not concerned. Ten months have been spent in conversations with voters, outlining our promises to them should they choose to elect us.
“People throughout the state welcomed and believed us. I have no idea what magic someone can work.
Until they demonstrate otherwise, I think INEC will conduct a free and fair election. Ighodalo continued, “We are going to win this election hands down.
Additionally, he said that some PDP chieftains had been detained in Uromi.
“We will continue to be confident notwithstanding our dissatisfaction with certain ongoing situations. A member of our support team was taken into custody at Uromi by individuals wearing security gear.
“No one entering a polling place with a gun should do so. It is illegal to do it. It isn’t allowed by the rules. You witness individuals acting indiscriminately, oppressing and attempting to frighten our people. It is not going to occur. We are not to be scared.
Why have just PDP members been taken into custody? You witness APC supporters acting inconceivably on a daily basis. However, no one takes them into custody. No one looks into them.
The arrested individual was attempting to obtain accreditation at his polling place. He was in queue, attempting to obtain accreditation. A level playing field should be established by the authorities. This is becoming excessive, especially from the Police Department,” he continued.
