Terseer Ugbor, the member for Benue State’s Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, says he has hired solicitors to file a legal challenge against Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Benue State Government in court over claims that the governor diverted palliative care.
Ignore stated that in order to clear his name in a court of law, his legal team is required to look into the claims and take the necessary steps to protect his reputation.
He said he is suing the Alia government for defamation of character and is demanding for N1 billion as compensation.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula claimed the “truck was caught offloading relief materials meant for IDPs of the Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency at a private residence in Makurdi”.
“It was later discovered that the goods were supposed to be sponsored by the state government and lifted by the State Emergency Management Agency, but they had been released from a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) warehouse in Jos,” claims Kula.
In addition to ordering the truck to be detained and transported to Government House, Alia also called on pertinent officials to make sure that the materials were given to the appropriate people and instructed anti-graft organisations to conduct additional research.
Ugbor declared he was prepared to defend his reputation and asserted that the governor’s decision was needless and driven by politics.
“Given this development, I have directed my legal team to investigate the charges and contemplate taking necessary measures to protect my name and correct any misrepresentations in court.
The congressman said, “My assistance for the delivery, storage, and distribution of palliative to displaced individuals in Kwande is not a new endeavour, but it appears to have aroused the governor’s ire.
