Dino Melaye, a former senator from Kogi West, said that the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by acting National Chairman Umar Damagun, had infiltrated the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Melaye made the statement in response to Edo State’s recently ended gubernatorial election.
The former congressman said that Damagun would destroy the party in a post on X, citing the Edo State governorship election as evidence.
Melaye claims that PDP is waiting for the boarding card in the departure lounge while the destroyer known as Damagun is underway.
“The Edo experience will be a farce; the APC outnumbers the PDP in the NWC.”
Asue Ighodalo, the PDP’s candidate for governor, was defeated on Saturday.
According to results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, the PDP candidate for governor received 247,274 votes.
After receiving 291,667 votes, Monday Okpebholo of the APC was proclaimed the winner of the race by the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta.
Melaye, meantime, had earlier charged Damagum with trying to demolish the erstwhile ruling party.
Melaye predicted that Damagum’s style of leadership would have the PDP’s founding fathers—Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, Sunday Awoniyi, Adamu Chiroma, Tony Anenih, and Abubakar Rimi—turning in their graves.
