The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently experiencing an internal crisis, which has alarmed the Coalition for Kaduna Political Groups (KPG) and could have an impact on the results of the 2027 election.
The PDP’s ability to remain a credible opposition party has been seriously questioned by the group, which stated in a statement signed by the party’s convener, Ibrahim Murtala Kachia, co-convener, Solomon Jacob Maiyaki, PRO Dr. Victor Bobai, and secretary general, Mrs. Daniel Blessing. The group cited internal conflicts, leadership issues, trust erosion, and divisions within the PDP.
While lamenting the exit of notable personalities and their followers from the party, the group noted that recent events in Kaduna, especially in Southern Kaduna, have highlighted the growing dissatisfaction with the PDP and stressed the urgent need for reevaluation.
It claimed the PDP’s popularity has declined as a result of its inability to resolve internal problems, put up a united front, and give its followers real rewards.
As an effective response to the difficulties facing the country, the statement stated, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has shown a more unified internal structure.
Senator Danjuma Laah, Engineer Andrew Yakubu, Joseph Gumbari, and thousands of their supporters may soon find themselves in the political wilderness in Southern Kaduna, the group warned, adding that “the collective exodus reflects a broader sentiment: the PDP, once regarded as a stronghold of political power, now struggles to deliver tangible benefits to its supporters”.
“Party leadership is being prioritised over administration, which begs serious concerns about party loyalty in light of the increasingly ineffectual party, particularly when it comes to important posts like the governorship. The organisation declared, “The message is clear: the status quo is no longer viable.”
The organisation also noted that “voters become suspicious of a party that is unable to resolve internal conflicts if it cannot present a united front, undermining its ability to articulate a compelling alternative to the electorate.”
