I anticipate receiving congrats from PDP’s newly elected Edo governor, Okpebholo.

Monday Okpebholo, the newly elected governor of Edo State, stated he anticipates receiving a congrats message from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who won the recent gubernatorial election.

Prior to meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Okpebholo, who obtained his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, declared he would lead as a servant.

The candidate for the All Progressives Congress, or APC, also declared that if the opposition has good ideas to improve the state, he is willing to collaborate with them.

“I’m coming as a servant to serve the Edo people,” Okpebholo declared. I will precisely fulfil my obligations as it is what is expected of me. You will therefore witness significant development in Edo very soon.

“We are planning to hire educators. Our schools will be renovated.Over time, a lot will occur. Gradually, you realise that a fresh day has arrived.

If their concept is lovely and well-received by the public, then why not? I welcome everyone with open arms.

They must put up with it. They are required to wait. It has actually occurred. Had I lost, I could have accepted it and by now I would have congratulated the victor. I therefore anticipate their congratulations.

As a member of the delegation at the Presidential Villa, former state governor Adams Oshiomhole said the state is fortunate to have a governor that the people can readily relate to.

According to Oshiomhole, effective administration is more about having a compassionate leadership that pays attention to the needs of the populace than it is about erecting roads and schools.

“Only God can confer power,” he declared. All effort can be made by man. It will all be for nothing if God decides not to crown it. Thus, political campaigns are meaningless unless they are led by God. And I believe that is the case with us, which is why I am thrilled not just that we have almost exactly recaptured Edo State from the PDP as it was taken from us in 2007 but also that we have successfully regained it.

I’m happy that the people of Edo will finally have a governor they can feel, touch, and hug—a governor who will also be able to unlock doors. The governor of Edo State currently holds the position of not sending pregnant women to jail for a N20,000 fine imposed by a mobile court, even if they might give birth inside of a prison. We have a man who possesses empathy and human feeling, as government is more than just constructing roads and schools. It’s that personal touch—a governor who possesses empathy and humility enough to understand that public trust differs from that of a CEO of a corporation.

“But with public trust, the vote of the labourer and the professor, the pauper and the beggar and the wealthiest person, one man, one vote is equal.” The corporate chief executive can act as he pleases because he is in charge of the company because it is funded by his father. Our governor is aware of this, having gone through the same procedure just a year before, and has been entrusted by his people with senatorial representation in Edo Central. And the other guys are completely unaware of what is working for him.

His presence at home with an ordinary guy and woman is noteworthy. He is aware of the difficulties faced by the impoverished in rural areas. Now that they have returned with a governor they can claim as their own, they are all quite excited.
