
Nigeria has authorised the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 as justification for raising the monthly allowance of Corps members to N77,000.
The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) has authorised a new monthly allowance for serving members, increasing it from the current N33,000 to N77,000.
The was revealed on Wednesday through a press release that was provided to the media and bearing the signature of Caroline Embu, the NYSC’s acting director of information and public relations (ADIPR).
The statement read, “The federal government has approved raising the monthly allowance for Corps members to Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira (N77,000) starting in July 2024.”
This is consistent with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024 being enacted.
“This was stated in a letter dated September 25, 2024, and signed by Mr. Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
“Before this, the Chairman had received a visit from the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Yushua Ahmed, who asked for a comprehensive welfare package for Corps members.
As said in the statement, “The NYSC chief is grateful to the federal government for the prompt action and is hopeful that it will not only provide much-needed support to the Corps Members, but also raise their spirits and inspire them to do even more in their service to the country.”
