Oghenekaro Peter Etebo, a midfielder for Nigeria, talked about why he chose to sign with Genclerbirligi, a team in the Turkish second division.
This summer, Etebo, 28, unexpectedly joined the Red and Black.
The aggressive midfield player turned down offers to stay with the tiny team from clubs in Turkey’s premier level and Israel.
Due to an injury, the former Warri Wolves player missed almost a full year of action.
Etebo used Genclerbirligi’s facilities for training while he was healing from his wound.
The player disclosed that he was not under any duty to accept the club’s invitation to use their training facilities.
He claimed that the club’s generosity and the rapport he had with the coaching staff were factors in his choice to sign on.
“I received a lot of calls asking me why I would go to a Turkish second division club.” Etebo stated in a SportsBoom.com interview.
I trained 100% of the time with the group from January till the end of the season without having to pay for anything.
“Etebo, I’d tell you something even before you sign for any team or before you go anywhere,” the coach said to me. Just keep in mind that it was these guys who took care of you. For that reason, it’s critical.
