Two injured in explosion at California courthouse; suspect detained

Officials have reported that a person of interest has been taken into custody.

On Wednesday morning, an explosive device went off in the Santa Maria Courthouse in California, injuring two persons.

The explosion happened just after 8:45 a.m., and authorities think it was placed on purpose.

In a statement on X, Raquel Zick, the public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff, stated, “There has been a report of an explosion at Santa Maria Courthouse.” Kindly stay away from the area. The scene is not considered secure. More details will be provided later.

An adult male is the subject who is being held. An improvised explosive device that was purposefully set caused the explosion.

The investigation is proceeding slowly at this point, and the police don’t think there are any more unidentified suspects. The suspect is still being questioned as the explosives squad processes the scene.

The same courtroom hosted the well-known Michael Jackson trial two decades ago, when the singer was found not guilty of any accusations related to sexual assault.
