Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, has declared that despite the escalating tensions in both Gaza and Lebanon, Israel will not stop its military operations until its goals are achieved.
Netanyahu gave a severe threat to Iran during his speech to the UN General Assembly, saying, “If you strike us, we will strike you.”
During his speech, Netanyahu said, “There is no place in Iran that the long arm of Israel cannot reach, and that’s true of the entire Middle East,” while representatives from the Palestinian territories and Lebanon left in protest, according to AFP.
Earlier, demonstrators gathered in front of Netanyahu’s hotel in New York, calling for a stop to the current violence in Lebanon and Gaza. The demonstrations were a reaction to the ongoing cross-border gunfire between Israel and Hezbollah, which started following Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7.
Despite the United States and France proposing a 21-day truce, Netanyahu reiterated his opposition to a ceasefire. According to a statement from Netanyahu’s office, “It is an American-French proposal, to which the prime minister has not even responded.”
Israel has increased its attacks in Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of nearly 700 civilians. After fighting for almost a year, the UN dubbed the situation in Lebanon the “deadliest period in a generation,” with over 1,500 people killed.
