In a rare interview that aired on Thursday, former US first lady Melania Trump recalls learning that her husband had been injured by a bullet fired by an attempted assassin and dubbed his near-miss a “miracle.”
The former president Donald Trump’s wife informed Fox News that she was in New York when live television footage of the attack at a Butler, Pennsylvania event came on in July.
I sprinted over to the TV and turned it back. And I did watch it. I was just a few minutes late. However, nobody really knew at the time I witnessed it because, when you see him on the ground and you don’t know, you don’t know what actually happened,” the woman remarked.
At the event in Pennsylvania, Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump from a neighbouring rooftop before being shot and killed by a sniper, upending Trump’s hopes of winning back the White House.
Trump only had minor injuries, just a cut to his ear.
Despite backlash over the startling security lapse, Melania Trump lauded her husband’s Secret Service detail, calling the agents “fantastic.”
She also briefly described her response on September 15 at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, to what was believed to be a second attempt on the 78-year-old Republican’s life.
“I truly believe that both of the experiences were miracles. In retrospect, July 13 was indeed a miracle, the speaker stated.
Less than a month before the election that may topple her husband, the reclusive and media-shy former first lady was doing her first televised interview in two years to promote her memoir, which was released on October 8.
Though the spouses of politicians frequently participate actively in the campaign, Melania has mostly avoided her husband’s rallies.
The 54-year-old former model from Slovenia did not show up for his court appearances in New York this spring, where he was found guilty of 34 fraud offences in connection with a controversy involving payments of hush money to a porn star.
When questioned about the numerous criminal cases that Trump was involved in, she voiced her disapproval of an FBI raid at the couple’s Florida Mar-a-Lago resort in 2022.
Yes, that infuriated me. Invasion of privacy. Furthermore, the method used “I was genuinely taken aback,” she remarked subsequent to the bureau’s entry into the premises to retrieve secret materials purportedly improperly stored.
“Nobody should put up with that kind of stuff, so you get upset about it.” Someone went through my belongings; I’m not even sure who or how many it was,” the woman continued.
She believed the media was hiding the first attempt on her husband’s life, so she started to wonder about it.
“My queries were numerous. What’s happening? This isn’t how things usually go. And does the fact that my spouse is the target of all this heinous violence really astonish you? stated she.
In particular, when we hear opposition party leaders and mainstream media denouncing him and characterising him as a danger to democracy… This has to end. We must bring the nation together.
The memoir, titled simply “Melania,” spans 256 pages, and a signed copy with photos is available for $250.
