Iran is the target of criminal charges brought by the US government for hacking Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

This action is a component of the administration of President Joe Biden’s attempts to counteract foreign meddling in the race for vice president, Kamala Harris, against Trump.

Three Revolutionary Guards Corps soldiers from Iran are the subject of criminal accusations brought by the US Justice Department for allegedly hacking Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and trying to sabotage the election on November 5.

This action is a component of the administration of President Joe Biden’s attempts to counteract foreign meddling in the race for vice president, Kamala Harris, against Trump.

The three Iranian nationals, Masoud Jalili, Seyyed Ali Aghamiri, and Yasar Balaghi, are accused in the indictment, which was unsealed on Friday, of using fictitious email addresses to deceive campaign personnel into revealing private information.
The Biden campaign and media outlets were then informed of this information breach. Identity theft, computer fraud, and wire fraud are the charges levied against them.
The claims that Iran had singled out former US officials were refuted by the country on Thursday, calling them unfounded.

Yet, Attorney General Merrick Garland said during a press conference on Friday that the US is witnessing more aggressive Iranian cyber activities this election season.

This election cycle, we are witnessing a rise in hostile Iranian cyber operations,” he stated.
The three people as well as a number of other Revolutionary Guard Corps members are also subject to sanctions from the Treasury Department.
Iran has previously been charged with interfering with US elections. According to analysts, the Iranian hacking group Charming Kitten, also known as APT42, is well-known for its surveillance software, which has the ability to record calls, steal texts, and even turn on cameras and microphones.

In August, the Trump campaign acknowledged that Iran had hacked it, but claimed that no personal data was obtained by the hackers. Nonetheless, a number of media sites have stated that they turned down offers to publish internal campaign documents.

In addition, the indictment stated that when Biden campaign staffers were handed Trump’s debate preparation materials, they chose not to reply. This was just before the two candidates’ sole debate on June 27.

An individual from Pakistan who is believed to have connections to Iran entered a not guilty plea earlier this month to allegations of terrorism related to a scheme to kill a politician in the United States as payback for the death of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards chief commander in 2020, according to the authorities.

A source said the defendant mentioned Trump as a possible target, but there is no proof he was connected to the two recent assassination attempts on Trump’s life.

Along with targeting Russian attempts to influence the election, the Justice Department has also sanctioned and charged employees of state media outlet RT for allegedly supporting pro-Trump social media influencers in the United States.
