Actress Ebun Hodo has expressed her views on the value of skill over looks in the Nollywood industry.
The actress claims that having attractive features and a strong sexual appeal are insufficient for a successful career in Nollywood.
In my opinion, physical attractiveness and sexual appeal are insufficient for success in the Nollywood industry. “Many are called, but few are chosen,” is a proverb that goes, she said to Potpourri.
Ebun went on to say that an actor’s lifetime is largely determined by their skills and competence. Do you truly count as one of the chosen? Are you knowledgeable about what you are doing? She asked, “Are you able to interpret roles with depth and conviction?”
The idea that success can be achieved solely by good looks was also rejected by her. “If not, I apologise ma’am, but selling sex appeals won’t get you anywhere in Nollywood unless you use the typical short cuts like juju,” she continued. In Hodo’s opinion, being attractive is not enough for the industry. In the world of Nollywood, physical appearance is not as important as ability and commitment. “Achievement through hard work, dedication, or passion is essential, as appearances can only take you so far. Bring something genuine to the table,” she said.
