3,500 officers are sent by the NSCDC to the FCT to celebrate Independence.

To maintain security on Tuesday, the 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has sent 3,500 men around the Federal Capital Territory.

Throughout the festivities, the large-scale deployment seeks to preserve public safety, defend vital national assets, and secure both public and private property.

This was mentioned in a statement released on Monday and signed by Samuel Idoko, the spokesperson for the NSCDC FCT Command.

“The Federal Capital Territory Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has deployed a total of 3,500 personnel to provide security in the FCT for Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary celebrations,” stated Idoko.

To strengthen security measures, special forces such as the Agro Rangers, Female Strike Force, Armed Squad, Special Crack Squad (Operation Adaka-su), and Anti-Counter Terrorism Squad have been mobilised.

To quell any possible unrest, personnel will be positioned strategically throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), covering all Area Councils and the city centre.

Dr. Olusola Odumosu, the Commandant of the FCT NSCDC, highlighted the significance of the Corps’ role in guaranteeing a peaceful celebration.

In order to emphasise the need for professionalism among NSCDC staff, Odumosu emphasised the FCT’s special status as the country’s seat of government and a hub for diplomatic missions.

For there to be a quiet celebration, the Corps must meet a number of expectations set by the government and those living in the Federal Capital. Property in the Federal Capital, both private and public, must be safe, according to the Command.

Odumosu stated, “The Corps must be extremely professional in the discharge of their duties to avoid any form of infraction, with the FCT being the seat of power and hosting diplomatic headquarters from all over the world.”

He reaffirmed the importance of following the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures and highlighted the need for round-the-clock surveillance on vital national assets.

In order to guarantee a smooth security operation throughout the celebrations, he further urged cooperation across the security authorities.
