Politicians, statesmen, and other interested parties have been urged to intervene by Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate for 2023, Atiku Abubakar, in order to rescue Nigerian democracy from impending oppressive dangers.
The Waziri Adamawa added that the opposition parties’ inadequacies are exploited by the All Progressives Congress, rendering them ineffectual.
Atiku urged Nigerians to work together in his Independence Day speech on Monday in order to realise the greatness that the country’s illustrious founders had in mind.
On October 1, Nigeria will commemorate the 64th anniversary of its independence.
“Our political environment has turned toxic; opposition parties wilt and the ruling party seems to be manipulating internal procedures to make them ineffective,” stated the former vice president. As a one-party dictatorship in Nigeria approaches, it is the responsibility of all honourable politicians and statesmen to come up and save our democracy from the advancing forces of oppression.
Atiku emphasised that the 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence is not simply a reason to celebrate, but also a testament to the people of Nigeria, who have a strong belief in the potential of their nation and an unwavering spirit.
“Our country has experienced many turbulent times, but the determination of our patriots, supported by the unity of our foreign allies, has strengthened our determination as a strong entity,” the statement continued.
We are proud of Nigeria’s lasting democracy, which has been exemplified by the longest duration of democratic rule in our history, as we celebrate 64 years of national independence today.
“Even though democracy has solidified the foundation of the rule of law within our institutions, we have not made enough progress towards promoting political inclusivity and guaranteeing truly free and fair elections.”
Atiku urged on political leaders to come together in a powerful coalition that can provide Nigerians with a viable opposition for a better future, expressing concern about the ruling class’s effect on the country’s diminishing electoral credibility.
By peaceful political activism, our founding ancestors championed our independence and came together behind a shared purpose. The former vice president said, “What we commemorate today is the result of their collaborative endeavours and those of subsequent generations.
