In advance of the October 1 Independence Day celebration, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command announced that it has started deploying officers and equipment.
But when it came to getting ready for the demonstration that was going to take place that same day, the command—which does not have a Commissioner of Police—remained mute.
The deployment comprised explosive ordnance disposal officers, anti-riot gear, and visibility policing, among other things, according to a statement released on Monday by Josephine Adeh, a spokesman for the Police Command.
She said that the purpose of this was to guarantee that inhabitants of the FCT celebrate Independence Day in peace.
She declared, “The FCT Police Command has strategically placed enough people and equipment throughout the FCT in advance of the approaching October 1st Independence Day celebration.
In light of the impending October 1st Independence Day celebration, she stated, “The FCT Police Command has strategically deployed adequate personnel and equipment throughout the FCT.”
“Traffic diversions will be implemented in areas, such as Central Area and Eagle Square, that are expected to experience large crowds,” stated Adeh.
