Soldiers thwart an attack by ISWAP rebels and retrieve weapons in Borno

Attackers from the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) attempted to launch an attack along the Magumeri-Maiduguri axis in Borno, but their attempt was thwarted by soldiers of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Operation Hadin Kai, Sector 3.

In the course of a tactical operation in the area, the army also took ammo caches from the rebels.

In a statement released on Sunday in Maiduguri, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osaba, Chief Military Information Officer, MNJTF, N’djamena, Chad, stated as much.

According to him, the soldiers carried out a tactical ambush to eliminate the threat before the terrorists could cause more harm to defenceless civilians.

According to Osaba, the forces confronted the terrorists as they rode out of a wooded location on motorcycles after positioning themselves tactically along their route of travel.

The attackers tried to escape after spotting the soldiers, but they were greeted with a fierce round of gunfire.

“Their plan to unleash violence in the region was disrupted by this decisive engagement, which forced them to give up their weapons and motorcycles,” the speaker stated.

In addition to two AK-47 rifles, 51 rounds of special 7.62mm ammunition, two magazines, 61 rounds of 7.62 NATO ammunition, packages of marijuana, and Tramadol were among the weapons he reported as recovered.
