Seven persons were killed on Tuesday by a Russian strike that targeted the core of Kherson, a city in southern Ukraine, according to the regional prosecutor’s office.
A market was littered with shattered glass and debris, and multiple people were lying on the street, according to a video released by the governor of the area.
“On October 1, at approximately 9:00 a.m. (0600 GMT), Russian forces attacked the centre of Kherson, purportedly using cannon artillery,” the Kherson region prosecutor’s office stated on Telegram.
The shelling happened close to a public transport station and a neighbourhood market. Seven individuals have been confirmed killed thus far, comprising three women and four males, the statement stated.
The city of Kherson is situated on the western bank of the Dnipro River, which serves as a de facto front line for Ukrainian and Russian soldiers, respectively.
In November 2022, Russian forces evacuated the city and retreated across the Dnipro, while they continued to heavily shell Kherson.
