The Peoples Democratic Party has been referred to be a “dead party” by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national leader and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in the 2023 presidential elections.
He also lambasted the All Progressives Congress for being disconnected from the harsh realities that Nigerians are facing right now, such as rising levels of insecurity, extreme poverty, and starvation.
Speaking on Monday at the NNPP’s National Executive Committee meeting, Kwankwaso underlined that the party is the fastest-growing political movement in Nigeria despite the many obstacles it faces.
After expressing gratitude to the party’s large number of supporters for their hard work and devotion, Kwankwaso expressed optimism about the party’s future and described it as a competitive alternative in the political landscape of the nation.
I’m happy to announce that, in spite of all the difficulties, our party is currently expanding at the fastest rate in the nation. I said that the two parties, particularly the PDP, were dead and that there are a lot of issues within the PDP when I went to Katsina State to commission our state office, Kwankwaso recalled.
He went on, “I’m sure many of them did not see what was happening today, that the party had been broken into parts, when I was delivering that remark. If they were unaware at the time, they will now, in my opinion, concur with the rest of us that the party is over as it is collapsing.
Regarding the APC’s current status, Kwankwaso stated: “You can see that the leadership of this party is just up in the air, while the people of this country are on the ground.”
“At that point, regardless of how well they think they are doing, all of us—especially the voters in this country—believe that they are doing incredibly poorly, especially when you consider the security situation, the degree of poverty in this nation, and—of course—the threat of hunger that we are currently experiencing in this country.”
NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, urged Nigerians to prioritise doing the right thing and band together to create a better future in his submission.
In her speech to the group, National Secretary Dipo Olayoku urged party members to vote in local elections with vigour in order to increase awareness and fortify democracy.
In line with the NNPP’s internal rules, the Electoral Act, the 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution, as amended, as well as other legal statutes and directives from the Independent National Electoral Commission, he recalled that the party’s new constitution, logo, slogan, and flag were ratified at the most recent NEC meeting, which took place on April 5, 2024.
Olayoku further underlined that despite the nation’s continuous political difficulties, the NNPP is dedicated to standing by its leaders and defending the will of the people.
