France convenes the UN Security Council following an attack in Iran and sends military resources to the Middle East.

Additionally, it announced that a meeting of the UN Security Council will be held later that day.

With the escalating tensions in the Middle East, France said on Wednesday that it was deploying more military forces to the region to counter what it described as the “Iranian threat.”

Additionally, it announced that a meeting of the UN Security Council will be held later that day.

This came after Iran launched a flurry of missile attacks on Israel on Tuesday, claiming that it was in revenge for Israel’s killing of the heads of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hamas, and Hezbollah.

Amid growing worries of a wider war, Iran declared early on Wednesday that its missile attack against Israel was complete, barring more provocation. Meanwhile, Israel and the US pledged to retaliate against Tehran’s attack.

Following an emergency security cabinet meeting to assess the regional escalation, the French presidency declared in a statement overnight that it was “committed to Israel’s security and today mobilised its military resources in the Middle East to counter the Iranian threat.”

“France’s demand that Hezbollah stop its terrorist actions against Israel and its population was also reiterated by the head of state.”

The defence ministry was not immediately reachable for comment, and it provided no information on what extra military equipment had been dispatched to the area.

According to the ministry, in order to coordinate diplomatic efforts, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot spoke with his US counterpart Antony Blinken.

Last week, just hours before Israel conducted airstrikes that killed Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Paris and Washington made an attempt to broker a provisional ceasefire in Lebanon.

According to Arab News, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday afternoon that the UN Security Council would be gathering to discuss the Middle East crisis.

The French presidency said that it would soon host a conference in favour of Lebanon and requested that the foreign minister visit the area in order to engage on diplomatic initiatives aimed at lowering tensions.

The president further stated, “Being mindful of our countrymen’s safety and security in Lebanon and the Middle East, the head of state asked that all essential steps be done to support them and, if required, come to their help.

In preparation for the possibility of an evacuation order, France sent a helicopter carrier to the area on Monday.
