The unfortunate occurrence that has provoked uproar throughout the state has been categorically criticised by the police officials, who called it “sad.”
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, ordered the Yobe State Command to continuously update the public on every move done in the matter in a tweet sent out on Wednesday morning in response to the event.
“This is sad and condemned in its totality,” he stated. “The inspector has been taken into custody, and appropriate investigation and disciplinary measures will be carried out.”
“We offer prayers for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace and send our condolences to his friends and family.
“We have directed the Yobe command to constantly update the public on this case.”
In the meantime, the homicide incidence is being investigated immediately by Mr. Garba Ahmed, the Commissioner of Police for Yobe State.
According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident took place on September 29, 2024, at approximately 18:20 hours.
A portion of the statement included this: “On September 29, 2024, at around 18:20 hours, Inspector Mohammed Bulama, 38, and Abdulmalik Dauda (aka Baksha), 39, of Pompomari Ward, Damaturu, got into a furious altercation over an unsettled transaction at the Zango Area.
“The argument turned physical, and Bulama is accused of stabbing Dauda in the chest during the struggle. Bulama was also hit in the head during the altercation.
Bulama sought sanctuary at the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, where he was apprehended without delay. Bulama is being held pending internal disciplinary action and an inquiry by the state’s Criminal inquiry Department (CID).
Ahmed offered his condolences to Dauda’s family and denounced Bulama’s behaviour.
He promised the people that justice would be served through a thorough and prompt investigation.
“Any misconduct by its employees will not be tolerated by the Nigeria Police Force.” “We’ll make sure that the offender is held responsible and that justice is done,” Ahmed declared.
