In a deadly car accident that happened on Tuesday night in the Abule Osun neighbourhood of the Lagos-Badagry Motorway in Lagos State, at least ten persons, including three children, died.
Three further people were injured in varied degrees in the horrific tragedy, which happened at around 11 p.m.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), verified the incident’s specifics in a statement that was made public on Wednesday.
He said that a stationary truck carrying granite, which had taken up a large amount of the road, and a Siena car were engaged in the collision.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Siena may have been speeding when it failed to detect the truck parked on the motorway, according to the LASEMA spokesman.
“Upon arrival at the scene of the road traffic accident at Abule Osun, inward Iyana Iba, along Lagos-Badagry Motorway, it was discovered that a Toyota Sienna bus, registration number BDG 342 FS, was involved in a road accident with a parked SHACMAN truck, registration number unknown. The bus was fully loaded with passengers from the Eastern part of the country.”
One female adult and two children (male and female) were among the injured passengers who were reportedly saved and transported to a local hospital by Federal Road Safety Corps workers prior to the agency’s LRT arriving at the scene of the event.
“The Agency’s Lite Tow Truck assisted in recovering the unintentional Toyota Sienna, which was then hauled to the FRSC station.
He continued, “The ten commodities have been bagged and are awaiting the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit’s arrival for the commodities’ evacuation.”
