In September 2024, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) reported that it had recovered over N13 billion in embezzled public funds.
This revelation was revealed by Commission Chairman Musa Aliyu on Wednesday in Abuja at the ICPC’s 2024–2028 strategic action plan launch.
While reiterating that the Commission has been working tirelessly to execute its mandate, Aliyu did not specify the precise location of the cash’ recovery.
The head of the ICPC also disclosed that the Commission is digitising its operations in order to establish itself as a pioneer in the use of technology to fight corruption.
He claims that the anti-graft organisation is creating a specialist curriculum to improve the enforcement abilities of its employees.
According to Aliyu, the ICPC has stepped up its attempts to use system studies and corruption risk assessments to find administrative and institutional weaknesses.
“The ICPC has accomplished a great deal in carrying out its mandate in the last year; in September 2024 alone, we were able to retrieve over N13 billion in embezzled public funds.” This is only one example of the numerous ways we have put in great effort to realise our mission.
In addition, we are starting ICT reforms that will digitise our business and make internal procedures, case management, and investigations more effective.
“This change will put the Commission in a leadership position in using technology to fight corruption and keep us ahead of criminal activity in the digital era,” stated Aliyu.
