Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi, two Super Eagles, have formally acknowledged that they have reached an agreement to play for Kano Pillars for the balance of the Nigeria Premier League season, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The management of the former Nigerian champions shared this information on their X handle on Saturday. They also disclosed that both players have been added to their roster for Sunday’s match against Sunshine Stars at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina, their adopted home field.
We can reveal that Ahmed Musa MON, the captain of the Super Eagles, and Shehu Abdullahi have struck a verbal agreement to join us for the 2024–25 football season. According to the statement, both players will be in the starting lineup for our Sunday matchup against Sunshine Stars.
This will be Musa’s third debut for the Sai Masu Gida; he first wore the team’s colours in the 2009–10 campaign and scored eighteen goals in twenty-five appearances, setting a record that remained until November 2011, when Jude Aneke of Kaduna United F.C. broke it with twenty goals.
Following his international career, which included playing for CSKA Moscow, Leicester City, Al Nassr, VVV-Venlo, and others, Musa returned to Kano Pillars in 2021 and participated in eight games before leaving to play for Turkish Super Lig teams Fatih Karagümrük and Sivasspor, with whom he mutually severed ties in February.
The 31-year-old Abdullahi, a defensive midfielder who can also play defence, is in his second spell with the team. He began his professional career there in 2012 and stayed until 2014, when he moved abroad and played for teams like Qadsia, União da Madeira, Anorthosis, Bursaspor, Omonia, and Levski Sofia.
After a shaky start that saw them manage just four points in as many games, both players will be the centre of attention in Katsina as they attempt to turn around the team’s season and move up to 14th place on the log, eight points behind leaders Remo Stars.
